Senior veterinarian with degree of veterinary medicine (DVM) and attended most courses of MSC in agricultural economics. 25 years of proven experience in Government, International none Government and UN Organizations (Save The Children, Mercycorps, VSF-Suisse and FAO) mainly working in Pastoral and Agro-Pastoral production system. 12 years of which have been in management and technical leadership position. He managed multiyear, multimillion and Multi donor funded (USAID and EU) programs in areas of Economic and Market Development Programs that enhanced pastoral and agro-pastoral communities’ Livelihood and Resilience through improved competitiveness of Livestock Production and Market, Enhanced Natural Resource base, Alternative Livelihood Creation and Strengthened Private Sector Engagement and Inclusive Financial Services. He has also technically supported and advised on the eradication and control of Peste Petits Ruminants (PPR) and other Small Ruminant Diseases that are aligned to the Global, Pan African and IGAD region strategies. He has also led and technically coordinated Livestock Related Emergency Interventions including Nutrition Sensitive Livestock based Emergency Interventions.
He has been conducted and participated in various studies and assessments like Study on Innovative Livestock Feed Solution, Scoping Study on Livestock Health Service Improvement and Community based Irrigated Forage Development, Rapid assessment on Live Animal and Meat Export Market using Emergency Market Mapping Analysis (EMMA) tools, joint monitoring and evaluation of FAO funded emergency agricultural interventions and Private Veterinary Pharmacy Establishment. He also acquired Certificate on Project in a Controlled Environment from PRINCE 2 Agile, AXELOS, England London, Certificate on Household Economy Analysis (HEA) from Food Economy Group (FEG), Rwanda Kigali, Certificate on Pro-poor Value Chain and Actor Empowerment from IIRR and Royal Tropical Institute, Addis Ababa and Certificate on Field tools for Effective Detection and Control of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza from United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Addis Ababa. Agriculture and Market System Development Specialist
Zelalem is an Agriculturalist by profession and has over 16 years of experience on designing; implementing, monitoring and evaluation of programs related to economic and market system development, resilience program, livelihood, youth employment, enterprise development, value chain development, food security, agricultural research and technology transfer. He has also extensive experience in conducting labor and agricultural market assessments, facilitating different technical trainings, establishing and managing micro and small enterprises, linking youth and women led groups to different training opportunities and financial service providers, developing partnership and working with various public, private and community-based organizations.
Zelalem holds MSc. Degree in Rural development and Agricultural Extension and certified trainer of Inclusive market system development.
Communication | Knowledge Management | Capacity Building
Zena is a communication, knowledge management, capacity building and development professional. Zena brings over 15 years experience in academic institutions and international organizations such as the World Bank Group and FAO. Currently, he is working for the World Bank Group in the Environment, Natural Resources and Blue economy portfolio as a communications and knowledge management specialist.
Zena holds MSc degree in Rural Development and Agricultural Extension (specializing in Agricultural Communication and Innovation) and BSc in Applied Mathematics (minor in computer science). Zena is one of the 2017 Mandela Washington Fellows who attended the Business and Entrepreneurship Fellowship program at Purdue University, USA. He also attended various skill development training in Ethiopia and abroad.
